What We Do
Our community inspires everything we do…
The Sports Active Seagulls Community Trust is a registered charity which was set up in 2012, to deliver sport and learning in our local community.
By linking with our local authority and schools we believe we can reach people of all ages with mixed needs.
Young or old, enjoyment or competition, unique or generic, we have it all.
We have a progressive link with North Somerset Council. When we first started there were a couple of short term projects, now we work alongside the Sport and Healthy Lifestyle team to provide street games sessions all over Weston. All of these sessions are free and help to keep children active as well as offering them a safe environment to play. We also work closely with the Sport Array team to provide disability sessions. We have recently been running a Kickability session and are continuing to run our ever expanding walking football sessions.
Now that the new year has begun starts we will be working closely with the council and local schools to provide family learning sessions, which will include healthy living.
We also have a strong partnership with The Somerset FA. Geoff Stevens, the Community Manager, is an FA tutor and FA mentor. This means that people taking their level one and the local clubs who sign up to the FA mentor initiative will most likely meet him. From Geoff’s work we have been able to gain funding and support from Somerset FA for lots of sessions in the community.
We have used the Mash Up sessions to work specifically with minority groups in the area. We deliver one session a week in Westhaven school as well as girls only sessions. The Somerset FA also helped us with funding to get the walking football off the ground as well. In the coming year we will be looking to build on these sessions with some futsal and girls only sessions in the local secondary schools.
