Girls Only

We believe that everyone can enjoy sport whether you are good at it or just play to keep fit. After the recent success at the Women’s Football World Cup in Canada, the England Lionesses’ have seen success and fame which is usually only seen with the men. We are hoping that that the increased exposure will help to inspire the current and next generation of female sports stars. As well as the football a new initiative to encourage more female activity called “This Girl Can” has had a huge success with a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations. It’s a celebration of active females up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.

We have found it difficult to increase female participation from the Football Club and after receiving feedback on some of the barriers we came up with a new plan. We are always looking for new ways to get more females involved with sport so for the new school year 2015-16, we have designed a project in which our coaches will go into each local secondary school and provide six weeks of Futsal taster sessions for free. Futsal is an indoor variation of football which is based around keeping control of the ball. As well as this in the summer we held one week of girls only fun days. It was a great success with girls of all ages getting involved and having fun.
